NEVER STOP BLOWING UP

Dimension 20 released their new title and trailer for their new campaign earlier today. Never Stop Blowing Up has already set itself up as an interesting and action-packed campaign with an entertaining cast to back it up.

With the end of Fantasy High: Junior Year, I couldn’t help but sit patiently waiting for the announcement to come any day. Today was that day, I saw the Dropout notification and instantly clicked to watch the trailer. I was greeted with a barrage of explosions and amusement which would soon reflect how I felt about the new season.

Who is the Cast of Dimension 20’s Never Stop Blowing Up?

*From left to right*- Ify Nwadiwe, Ally Beardsley, Rekha Shankar, Brennan Lee Muligan, Izzy Roland, Alex Song-Xia, Jacob Wysocki.

The cast alone already brings a level of crazy to the game. If they wanted to find the best group to get loud reactions just like the explosions they showed in the trailer, then these players will give them that and more.

As in almost every Dimension 20 production, we have Brennan Lee Mulligan as the Game Master. Being serious when the time calls for it with a dialogue that can match it. The other side of the die shows how whimsical and weird the nature of his NPCs can be.

The players for the season start with Izzy Roland. Izzy can bring humor while showing off her improv capabilities. Not only that but I love the chemistry she always has with the other characters, especially interacting with her partner, Brennan. Next up is series regular, Ally Beardsley. Being one of the most experienced players on the show at this point, Ally knows how to steer the story in crazy and unpredictable ways.

The next group of players are newer to the party. Ify Nwadiwe, Rekha Shankar, and Alex Song-Xia all have a unique sense of humor that showcases who they are as comedians. Ify is a powerhouse of a man, who recently became the host of Um, Actually, who can react quickly and honestly very witty. Rekha was one of my favorite characters in Dimension 20’s Escape from the Bloodkeep. Having an equal sense of wit, I am excited about her explosive and random personality and how she has grown as a player since her first game. Next, we have Alex. Alex’s comedy sense is usually perfect for the players they improvise, which shined through in Dimension 20’s Mentropolis.

Finally, the player I am most excited about is Jake Wysocki. Jake is no stranger to the Dropout platform. First showing up in shows like Gamechanger and Make Some Noise, Jake has cemented his role at Dropout as a regular. Probably one of the loudest and ready-for-anything comedians, Jake is for sure ready to bring the noise to Never Stop Blowing Up.

Possible Storyline for Never Stop Blowing Up

Last Action Hero (1993)

From all the action scenes in the trailer, I would have to guess that the game is going to roll out like Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Last Action Hero (1993). In this story, a young fan is transported into this action-packed world after receiving his movie ticket. Arnold plays the indestructible and adventurous Los Angeles cop, Jack Slater. The movie, just like the campaign, features over-the-top action that is commonly found in film.

After watching the trailer a few times, I might have a grasp on what the storyline is for this campaign. It quickly flashes across the screen toward the beginning of several membership cards from Dave’s Video World.

All of you are frozen in light, flinging, falling through endless night skies, and all of a sudden, BOOM.

Brennan, in the trailer, mentions the players are frozen in a light. This happens after they are presumably rewinding and starting the VHS, which they did in the trailer. At this point, I would say that they have been transported into this action-filled universe.

The surprising thing is, that they do not mention the names on the membership ID’s as their character names. I theorize that they are not only transported to this VHS landscape, but they themselves are changed into the characters from the movie.

Another interesting part of the trailer has Ify Nwadiwe ask Brennan (in character), “What happens if we die?”. Brennan responds with “Oh, you’re dead” with Ally Beardsley exclaiming “In real life?”. I do not think they would add this as a simple, “Oh haha in real life” as a bit. They are concerned that their characters outside of the VHS would die.

Ending Thoughts

Overall, as you can probably tell, I am very excited for this campaign. Never Stop Blowing Up premiers June 26th, 2024. There are still a few more weeks to get excited and catch up on some of Dimension 20’s/Dropouts’ other projects.

Brennan and the team over at Dimension 20 have continually worked hard on creating the worlds that we love. I, for one, can not wait to love this one.
