One of the most well known animes in the world hit the big screens in Japan on November, 8th. Originally the show aired in November of 2013, with the ten year conclusion occurring November 5th, 2023 (Maybe November is a lucky month?).
With the finale of the show over, what can you expect out of Attack On Titan: The Last Attack?
When Does Attack on Titan: The Last Attack take place?
If you’re hoping for a full recap from this movie, then we have some bad news. For those of you mostly caught up, then some good news is heading your way. The 145-minute movie will be taking place after episode 87: The Dawn of Humanity.
This means that episode 88-94 will be adapted. This is known as Part 3 and Part 4 of the series.
Attack On Titan: The Last Attack – What Happened?
-Spoilers for Attack on Titan Below-
The Fall of Shiganshina
Civilization has grown to be condemned in the mysterious and unknown walls that are the only thing keeping the end of humanity. The three walls that make up are Wall Maria, Wall Rose, and Wall Sheena. Wall Maria being the outermost wall with a radius of about 62 miles (100km), with Wall Sheena being the innermost and most protected area.
These walls are the protectors of humanity. Their main goal? Keeping the Titans on the outside, and the humans on the inside. This is where we find our main protagonists – Eren Yeager and his friends Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert. Life is peaceful, until the Colossal Titan breaches Wall Maria.
This allows Titans to flood the city and wreck havoc upon their hometown, Shiganshina. During the attack, Eren’s mother is killed, creating a desire to kill all the Titans. The main thought among the people? Where did the Colossal Titan come from and where did it go?

Eren Joins the Survey Corps
Just like any good anime must have, a time jump. After the fall of Wall Maria, Eren and friends join the Survey Corps. This is a specialized elite group that are dedicated to killing Titans and exploring beyond the walls.
Through dedication and the power of revenge, all three are able to join and start getting assigned to missions. During one such mission, Eren is eaten by a Titan. A moment later, Eren is transformed and takes the appearance of a Titan, the being he himself has declared to kill.
This surprises him and the Survey Corps. Initially thinking he is an enemy, there was a struggle of understanding. In the end the decided Eren would become a key weapon in humanity’s struggle.
This raised more questions about Titans and the truth of their existence outside the walls.
The Female Titan Arc
After years of no signs, there is a new special Titan. Known simply as the Female Titan, it comes to light that these special types are different than regular titans. More intelligent and very destructive.
The Female Titan goes on a massacre, but in the end leads to the revelation that it was one of their own. Annie Leonhart, a member of the Survey Corps, is outed as the Female Titan. We now have confirmation that Eren is not the only one that has these strange Titan shifting powers.
After being caught Annie encases herself in a crystal, one that is impenetrable with no access from the outside world. The Female Titan has been defeated, but nothing else has been uncovered. All Eren knows now, is that there are others like him out there, and they are not friendly.
The Clash of the Titans Arc: Reiner and Bertholdt’s Betrayal
Attack on Titan has some of the most unique and out of nowhere twists out of all of anime. One of the biggest twists in this series would have to be the betrayal of even more Survey Corp members.
After discovering some humans can transform into Titans, the Corps keep a look out for more of these members. While with Eren on top of the wall, Reiner cracks and in a frenzy comes out with the truth. Reiner and Bertholdt are the Amored Titan and the Colossal Titan. They were the ones that destroyed Wall Maria all those years ago.
Their objective: to capture Eren. Reiner and Bertholdt think Eren has the power to change the world. Eren refuses to be captured and an ensuring fight occurs. One of the most interesting parts of their confession? There is a land out there besides their own, known simply as Marley.
The Basement and the Truth About the World
We had been hinted at the basement that Eren’s father, Grisha Yeager, had told Eren about for years at this point. What was down there? Well after reclaiming part of the wall that was destroyed, they could finally go down and find out for themselves.
Grisha Yeager had left the basement key to Eren before his death, being told that it contained vital information. Eren and friends went to his old house, and finally were able to get to the basement. They truly could not have known what was waiting for them and how much their perspectives of the world was about to change.
Discovering Grisha’s Journals, they learn about a whole world they did not know they were apart of. While they thought they were the last humans, they learn that humanity is thriving and the Titans they are so scared of were created by the people of Marley. We find out the two main sides of the war, Marley and Eren’s group- the Eldians.
The Eldians are a race of people that can turn into Titans, all due to being descendants of a kingdom known as Eldia. Eldia used their powers to dominate the world, creating enemies that hated them after their downfall.
Marley has named Eldians as devils, trapping them on a large island (called Paradis), using the Titans to oppress them. This is how Grisha arrived, he was brought over as a traitor was supposed to be turned into one himself, until he was eventually saved before being turned into a Titan.
Marley Arc and the Paradis Invasion
The viewers are now fully introduced to Marley, seeing how Eldians live, they are considered second-class citizens. Eldians are used in the military, some are trained to take over the mantle of future Titan users. This is the same group that Annie, Reiner, and Bertholdt came from.
At this point, we know the power that Eren has is the Founding Titan power. With this he will be able to shift the world as he chooses. The twist is that he needs to be in contact with someone of royal blood. Marley wants to capture Eren and have him connect to who we finally find out is Eren’s brother, Zeke Yeager. Zeke grew up in Marley and was holding the powers of the Beast Titan and so happens to have royal blood flowing throw him.
However, Eren and the Corps attack Marley first. This marks the true beginning of the war between Paradis and Marley. Using the Attack Titan, Eren sets the war off with a big bang and causes a shocking attack to Marley and their leaders.
Eren’s Transformation and the Founding Titan’s Power
As we reach into the last few arcs of Attack on Titan, a lot happens. First and Foremost we are presented with a temporary alliance between Eren and his brother Zeke. Eren is now traversing a dark path and many are at odds if it is a good or bad thing for Paradis.
The two brothers have a plan of euthanizing Eldians. With the Founders power and the royal blood, they can make the Eldian people not be able to get pregnant, hence in abut 100 years ending the bloodline. This would also end the cycle of Titans and the hate the world has for them.
With another twist in action, Eren is able to betray Zeke and gains complete control over both powers. Instead of the Eldians dying, the whole world will be the sacrifice to keep his friends safe. An event known as The Rumbling is unleased, millions of Colossal Titans built into the walls are released. Their stampede will be overwhelming with no way to stop any of it.
However, Paradis and his friends, who are actively trying to stop The Rumbling, will be safe.

Attack On Titan – Side Notes
There is a lot that is not covered by this synapsis. With a US release date uncertain, you might have time to binge and watch it all. This would truly be the best way to experience the movie when it comes out.
The tension the show has, the morality, and scheming are out of this world. It is one of the reasons Attack On Titan is one of the most successful series in the anime/manga community.
